I’m an end user, here trying to sort out a problem with one of your websites (bad postcode lookup – write to me if you want more information). Curious about a blog, I came here, and will leave well-warned.
When you “recommend” a tradesman, all it means is that s/he has paid to join your site. No attempt to check qualifications or recommendations.
So – I can use Yell.com just as well. That’s a pity, I’d hoped that I might be able to find specialists (in my case in garage conversion), but clearly all you have to specialise in is getting your name on lists.

I’m sorry to hear that you were having difficulties getting your postcode to be accepted on garage conversion quoter.
Our postcode database is supplied directly by the Royal Mail, however, we do notice from time to time ‘holes’ appear in their data updates.
I’d be very grateful if you could forward the address you were trying to enter so that I can cross-reference this and hopefully update our database.
On the point of checking qualifications of tradesmen in our network – we currently have over 6,500 registered home improvement companies on our recommended network, covering 17 different home improvement areas.
When any company applies to join our network, we carry out background checks on their financial status and because we know so many people in the industry, reputations usually precede most of the them.
